WWE’s Monday Night Raw makes its way to the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex located in Birmingham, Alabama. Better known as BJCC, the $104 million facility was inaugurated in 1976. It consists of several exhibit halls, ballrooms, meeting rooms and multiple entertainment venues that include a theater, a concert hall and an arena. Providing space for as much as twenty thousand spectators, the BJCC has held popular events such as Disney on Ice showcases, Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus, American Idol Live!, WWE Raw, WCW Monday Nitro, and the PBR Built Ford Tough Series. The forthcoming event in Birmingham will present the professional wrestling program, the World Wrestling Entertainment Raw live. Debuting back in 1993, the show is also telecasted live on television in over 169 cities in countries including Mexico, Italy, Germany, South Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan, Canada, United States, United Kingdom and Japan. In June, 2012 WWE Raw presented its 1000th episode and since then has started broadcasting three-hour episodes instead of the previous two-hour format. The WWE Raw changed the whole wrestling scene as it became the first wrestling show to air episodes live. Furthermore it also presented large audiences instead of the previous small scale taped wrestling shows.
Before making its way to larger arenas, the live episodes that were presented each week, were broadcasted from the Grand Ballroom located at the Manhattan Center Studios in New York. Vince McMahon, Rob Bartlett and Randy Savage were the show’s hosts at the time. Today, Vince remains the only permanent host. Temporary hosts include Bobby Heenan, Jerry Lawler, Jim Cornette and Shawn Michaels. Recently declared champions of the WWE include Randy Orton for winning the title of “World Heavyweight Champion”, Big E for winning “International Championship” and Dean Ambrose being the current “WWE United States Champion.” The “Tag Team Championship” was won by the New Age Outlaws that consists of wrestlers Billy Gunn and Road Dogg, while AJ Lee is the current “Divas Champion.”
